Health Innovation Alliance’s 2023 efforts regarding artificial intelligence and fraud was referenced in a recent Inside Health Policy article.
Sens. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Mike Braun (R-IN) on Wednesday (Jan. 24) introduced legislation calling for CMS to use artificial intelligence to cut back on Medicare fraud involving durable medical equipment and diagnostic testing — an approach pushed by telehealth advocates for months as a way to prevent DME and diagnostic fraud from being conflated with legitimate telehealth services.
The Health Innovation Alliance had been shopping proposed legislation requiring CMS to use AI/machine learning technology for fraud prevention since last fall, Inside TeleHealth reported in October. HIA originally struggled to find a sponsor due to concerns that AI/ML was being improperly used to restrict legitimate health care services.
