Washington, D.C. – Today’s pledge by the Trump administration and leaders in health technology to improve the sharing of healthcare data is a long overdue step to shake up the status quo, regulation-driven health technology market by empowering both patients and providers.
For decades, we’ve heard promises from big companies that real-time access and use of data to improve healthcare is almost a reality. We’ve waited too long.
This is why our members are enthusiastic about the administration’s approach to enabling the private sector to step up and fill in where regulations and taxpayer subsidies have failed. We have the best data and technology companies in the world. There is no reason patients and providers shouldn’t have fully interoperable, real-time, in-workflow access to the information they need to get and stay healthy and deliver the best care in the world.
As the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services works to address information blocking and data accessibility, HIA pledges to work with the Trump administration to make the Interoperability Framework a reality.
Improving access to health data for both patients and providers will lead to earlier diagnoses, better care, and lower costs. Anyone who has had to deal with the healthcare system to get clear information about themselves or a family member can attest – it is painful. Simple steps to ensure consumers have easy access to this information are a refreshing no-brainer.
