Inside Health Policy interviewed HIA’s Brett Meeks the draft privacy legislation that would force the Federal Trade Commission to scrap its controversial privacy breach notification rulemaking.
Brett Meeks, executive director of Health Innovation Alliance, said that the provision of the bill clearing regulations related to privacy is common in the process of drafting and implementing new federal legislation. But FTC would still have to draft rules to implement the legislation were it to be enacted.
“This bill is a little different,” Meeks said. “I don’t know if that makes it any easier on anybody. I know a lot of people are really concerned with the proposed rule that was out there, but I’m not sure that those same folks aren’t as concerned or more concerned about this [legislation].”
