Washington, D.C. – Telehealth has been a lifeline for Americans who do not live near or cannot travel to see a healthcare provider. Now, with the permanent extension of a telehealth safe harbor for health savings accounts (HSA) in the just-passed reconciliation bill, those Americans can breathe a sigh of relief.
The expansion of who can own an HSA in the bill, and now this permanent policy, means millions more Americans will be able to use their HSA funds for telehealth services pre-deductible.
As technology continues to evolve and improve, the Health Innovation Alliance encourages Congress to make it a priority to allow technology to be easily incorporated into the healthcare system, without the unnecessary worry about if or when it could be taken away. Technology, like telehealth and AI, gives Americans access to better, more affordable care and should be championed.
