WASHINGTON, DC (December 11, 2019): Health Innovation Alliance (HIA) today endorsed the Rep. Axne (D-IA) amendment to HR 3 (amendment #10). The amendment establishes a grant program for states to reduce health care administrative burdens and costs, including through “actions that advance the development and adoption of open application programming interfaces and other emerging technologies to increase transparency and interoperability, empower patients, and facilitate better integration of clinical and administrative functions.”
“Health Innovation Alliance applauds Congresswoman Axne for her leadership on this important issue,” said HIA Executive Director Joel White. “HIA has long held that technology can reduce burdens and costs in the health care system while empowering patients. However, current rules and requirements have placed additional burdens on providers and developers, to the detriment of patients. Reducing this burden by half through open APIs, enhanced interoperability, and new digital tools is a laudable goal. We are proud to support it and urge all Members of Congress to vote for the Axne amendment.”
