Coalition organizes meetings with key Congressional, administration personnel for nearly a dozen health IT startups

WASHINGTON, DC (October 11, 2018): Health IT Now - a broad-based coalition of patient groups, provider organizations, employers, and payers supporting the use of data and health information technology to improve healthcare - hosted nearly a dozen emerging health IT leaders from across the country today for its Startup Day 2018.

Attendees participated in high-level meetings with staffers on both sides of the aisle in the House Ways and Means and Energy and Commerce Committees as well as the Senate HELP and Finance Committees. The event culminated with a White House meeting where participants shared their priorities with administration personnel.

HITN Executive Director Joel White released the following statement:

"2018 has been a record-breaking year for the amount of venture funding going to digital health start-ups: $3.4 billion in the first half of 2018 alone. Despite this, barriers to many startups' maximum success still stand in the way - particularly when it comes to federal health programs' treatment of technology-enabled tools," said HITN Executive Director Joel White. "In more than a decade of advocacy work, we at Health IT Now have seen that lawmakers and staff want to hear from healthcare disruptors and, similarly, these entrepreneurs want their voice to be heard on Capitol Hill - the challenge is making sure they know how to reach each other. We were proud to facilitate meaningful conversations between these two parties about the importance of innovation in healthcare and look forward to great things from each of the organizations we partnered with today."

Health IT Now plans to follow up today's meetings with a startup event in December located in New York. Startup Day participants included:
