Nine organizations are urging Congressional leaders to oppose any delay of Meaningful Use Stage 3 that does not also include reforms that make the program work better for doctors, hospitals and patients.
Since the Meaningful Use Stage 3 rule was finalized, there has been an increased push for Congress to delay Stage 3. Most recently, the GOP Doctor Caucus and the AMA (along with 111 national and state medical associations) have sent letters to Congressional leadership requesting a delay.
The Meaningful Use program was developed to help support an interoperable IT system that will improve the quality of care delivered while lowering costs for patients and providers. The organizations state that, “delay without reform would rob taxpayers and patients of cost savings while doing absolutely nothing to make the program work well for overburdened doctors and hospitals.”
